A SPACE FOR YOU
ABOUT THE SPACE
Located on the historic former St. Elizabeth’s campus, Sycamore & Oak is a shared vision between neighbors. It will soon become one of the most vibrant spaces in D.C., ultimately serving as an example of inclusive development, participatory economics, community engagement, healing and transformation.
From the local business programs to its green materials and design, Ward 8’s new epicenter was built for and by Congress Heights.
What begins as a retail village, will eventually grow to become a first of its kind, 600,000+ square foot, mixed use, sustainable development.
PHASE ONE
The first phase of the project features The Retail Village at Sycamore & Oak. At over 20,000 square feet, it’s a year round destination for the community and the city. It offers shopping, arts, culture, entertainment and serves as a wellness community resource.
Here, local, small businesses are placed in an environment where they receive the support to thrive. Programs like “Incubate the Eight” are designed to develop emerging Black entrepreneurs by sharpening their business and marketing skills. The “Chefs-In-Residence” program provides food and drink vendors with mentorship and operational guidance from the Jose Andres Group.
PHASE TWO
In a few years, the second phase will transition the space into a new town square surrounded by local stores, a mix of affordable senior and workforce housing, an office building, and even a hotel.
Until then, let’s keep building community by supporting our local entrepreneurs, sharing our experiences, celebrating the culture and spreading the excitement. Sycamore & Oak has something for every generation of Congress Heights. Especially you!
